Overwatering outnumbers every other cause of death we see, by a long way. A plant that is thirsty tells you within a day and recovers within two. A plant sitting in wet compost tells you nothing for three weeks and then cannot be saved.
Push a finger in to the second knuckle. If it comes out with compost stuck to it, wait. That single habit will keep more plants alive than any feed or gadget.
Shop forgiving plants
"Bright indirect" is meaningless until you measure it. Here is how, using the phone in your pocket.
Roots at the drainage hole are the obvious sign. Three less obvious ones matter more.
Usually not humidity. Four likelier explanations, ordered by how often we see them.
Less water, no feed, and move everything away from the radiator — not towards it.
Fortnightly in summer, monthly in winter, and gritty compost. That is the whole method.
Do not prune it in month one. Do not repot it in month two. Mostly, leave it alone.
